Move a project's source

Move a project between GitHub and Ploy Git with its full history, or deploy from a Ploy Git mirror of a GitHub repository.

Move a project's source

A project deploys from exactly one repository. Open Settings → Source to see which one and to move the project. Only organization owners and admins can move a project, and every move asks you to type MOVE to confirm.

GitHub to Ploy Git

Move to Ploy Git copies every branch and tag from the GitHub repository into a new Ploy Git repository. When the copy finishes, the project deploys from Ploy Git and pushes to GitHub no longer deploy.

  1. Go to Settings → Source.
  2. Optionally change the new repository's name.
  3. Click Move to Ploy Git and confirm.

The project keeps deploying from GitHub until the copy has finished. If the copy fails, nothing changes and you can try again.

Ploy Git to GitHub

Move to GitHub creates a new GitHub repository under your account, pushes the full history to it, and switches the project to it. You need a connected GitHub account and the Ploy GitHub App installed on the new repository's account.

Mirror GitHub with Ploy Git

Mirror GitHub with Ploy Git keeps GitHub as the source of truth. Ploy creates a Ploy Git repository that follows the GitHub repository, and the project deploys from the mirror once the first sync has finished. Keep pushing to GitHub as usual.

Mirroring is only offered when it is enabled on your Ploy installation.

What stays the same

Moving a project keeps its deployments, domains, environment variables, bindings, and production branch. Only the repository it deploys from changes.
